"Lean Construction on Notre-Dame de Paris"

Friday 4th April 2025

As Lean Management Expert at Setec Opency, Mr. Quentin Guyon-Carrard plays a key role in the reconstruction project of Notre-Dame de Paris. His work focuses on applying Lean Construction principles to one of the most emblematic and complex heritage restoration projects in Europe. By introducing collaborative planning methods, visual management tools, and continuous improvement practices, he helps coordinate a wide array of stakeholders—from artisans and engineers to architects and public authorities—while ensuring that deadlines, quality, and safety standards are met. His contribution illustrates how Lean methodologies can be adapted to the challenges of historical preservation, where precision, craftsmanship, and modern construction management must coexist. His presentation will provide insights into the practical implementation of Lean thinking in this extraordinary context, highlighting both technical strategies and human dynamics at the heart of the project.

"Construction Productivity Graph: an Agile Methodology for the Optimization of Building Construction Process"

Dr. Francesco Livio ROSSINI

Architect, PhD
Sapienza, University of Rome

The journey from conception to completion of an architectural project involves numerous interdependent variables, making it highly complex. Success depends on explicitly detailing these variables to achieve optimal integration while maintaining a clear project vision.

Given the historically low productivity in construction, innovative management methods—drawing inspiration from lean manufacturing and complexity theory—have emerged. These approaches optimize resource use through systemic strategies, reducing inefficiencies and improving overall processes.

Traditional methods like the Critical Path Method (CPM) focus on ideal conditions but often fail to account for real-world variables. Research highlights the potential of digital tools integrated with lean construction and AI to manage dynamic construction processes. Agent-Based Simulation (ABS), when combined with BIM models, enhances efficiency by enabling continuous design improvements. Additionally, the Construction Productivity Graph (CPG) aids in task distribution and crew management, adapting to site conditions while addressing delays, material shortages, and energy rationing.

About Francesco Livio Rossini

Francesco Livio Rossini (1988), architect, PhD in engineering-based architecture, is a post-doc researcher and adjunct professor in Construction Site Organisation at Sapienza – University of Rome, as well as a visiting researcher at the University of Grenoble/Alpes.

He participates in research projects funded by the European Union (LIFE-Primed) and the Italian Ministry of Culture (PRIN 2017) focusing on the digitalisation of the building process. Additionally, he works as a project manager, overseeing complex construction sites in the fields of cultural heritage, hospitality, and worship buildings.

His main Lean-related projects include:

  • Palazzo Fendi, Via del Corso, Rome (2014-15): Architectural and structural refurbishment.
  • Rome Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria Hotel & Resort (2015-present): Operations & Maintenance, facility management.
  • Vatican State (omissis): Architectural and HVAC refurbishment, Operations & Maintenance, facility management.

"Integrated Construction Supplychain from BTP Log 4.0 project"

Friday 4th April 2025

Fabien Font

CEO Of Teamoty

In the context of environmental and economic crisis, construction companies are torn between becoming more sustainable and more economically efficient. To solve this impossible equation, the French government (via its R&D program France 2030) has selected the BTP Log 4.0 project (led by IMMA and Teamoty). The presentation will explain why and how the implementation of a shared supplychain for all construction players on an urban scale can both improve company productivity and reduce the environmental impact of construction projects.

About Fabien Font
With a background of more than 25 years in Lean Management, in 2007 Fabien founded IMMA (Lean Construction consulting company) and thus participated in the transformation of the construction sector in France and Switzerland. With more than 1,500 projects supported by IMMA’s teams, he published one of the first books on Lean Construction in French. To facilitate the transformation, he co-founded Teamoty in 2018. Teamoty publishes software solutions that digitize Lean approaches such as Takt Planning, but above all that facilitate the implementation of value-added supply chains in construction. Today, he is also fully involved in the diffusion of Lean in the French-speaking world and is part of the board of directors and the extended office of the French Institute of Lean Construction.
